The GeoScienceWorld Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Amanda Bielskas, Director of Science, Engineering & Social Science Libraries at Columbia University, as its newest member. As a subject area specialist having overseen many of Columbia University Libraries’ prestigious collections since 2007, Amanda brings a wealth of knowledge and extensive expertise to her new role.
Her unique academic credentials include an M.L.S. from Long Island University, a B.A. in Environmental Geology from SUNY Plattsburgh, and a Master’s degree in Anthropology from Hunter College. This interdisciplinary background enables her to bring a comprehensive perspective to scientific information management and accessibility.
Amanda’s professional contributions extend beyond her role at Columbia. She co-authored “IM and SMS Reference Services for Librarians” with Kathleen Dreyer, advancing the field of digital library services. Her career path includes valuable experience at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY) and the American Museum of Natural History Libraries.
A recognized leader in her field, Amanda has served as President of the Geoscience Information Society (GSIS) and currently edits its newsletter, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to advancing geoscience information resources and services.
When she has some spare time, Amanda pursues her creative passions through travel, bird watching, photography, and jewelry design.
