GeoScienceWorld’s open-access journal Lithosphere is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Section Editors, expanding the journal’s editorial leadership in seismology, tectonics, mantle geodynamics, and mineralogy.

Hans-Peter Bunge, PhD – Mantle Geodynamics
Bunge, Chair of Geophysics, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany, will serve as Section Editor for mantle geodynamics and structural geology/tectonics. His work focuses on mantle convection, lithosphere dynamics, fluid dynamics, and numerical modeling of mantle–lithosphere interactions at global scale using high-performance computing.

Seth Stein, PhD – Geodesy and Seismology
Stein, the Deering Professor of Geological Sciences Emeritus at Northwestern University, will serve as Section Editor for research in geodesy and seismology, including active tectonics, earthquake geology, applied geophysics, geodynamics, and tectonophysics. His research focuses on plate tectonics, intraplate earthquakes, crustal deformation, and seismic hazards.

Aleksandr Stepanov, PhD – Mineralogy and Crystallography
Stepanov, a professor at China University of Geosciences, joins the editorial team as Section Editor for mineralogy and crystallography, with coverage spanning geochemistry, petrology, geochronology, and economic geology and mineral exploration. His research includes experimental petrology, metamorphism and anatexis, chalcophile elements, rare and strategic metals, and analytical methods such as LA-ICP-MS.

Ricardo Silva, PhD – Sedimentary Geology, Paleoclimate, Paleontology
Silva is an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba Department of Earth Sciences where he leads the Basin, Environment, and straTigraphY (BETY) Lab. His research focuses on sedimentary organic matter, from kerogen locked in the rock record to carbon cycling in soils, rivers, and marine environments, present and past.

“We’re delighted to welcome Hans-Peter, Seth, Aleksandr, and Ricardo to the Lithosphere editorial team,” said Matt Hudson, Director of Publishing and Publishing Services at GSW. “Their appointments strengthen Lithosphere’s editorial capacity across key areas of the geosciences and support the journal’s commitment to rigorous peer review and broad disciplinary coverage.”

Lithosphere publishes open-access research spanning the full range of solid earth science, including tectonics, geochemistry, geodynamics, stratigraphy, sedimentology, geophysics, and earth surface processes.
