It’s summer, which means you might find yourself on long dog walks or even longer road trips. Here are some geoscience-themed podcasts to help keep you entertained and informed along the way. Have a favorite we missed? We’d love to hear about it in the comments.

PlanetGeo – This podcast is run by two educators who seek to inform us about “our amazing planet, how it works, and why it matters to you.” Topics include the geology of wine and countertops to deep dives on specific geologic features, such as California’s Long Valley Caldera. Interviews with guests also discuss geoscience careers, including a recent episode with tips on how to get hired.

GeologyBites – Based out of the UK, each episode of this podcast features an interview and deep discussion of a particular topic. For example, a recent episode featured current Geology editor Rob Strachan discussing the Caledonian Orogeny.

Earth on the Rocks – A newcomer to the scene having just launched in November 2024, this podcast covers the range of earth and atmospheric sciences, including climate science and weather. The show stays lighthearted and engaging, such as the habit of beginning each episode with a discussion of the guest’s favorite drink.

Seismic Soundoff – Produced by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, this show covers traditional geophysics themes but also highlights novel applications and new tools and resources, such as machine learning and agentic AI. A notable recent episode featured Alison Malcolm, GEOPHYSICS editor-in-chief.
