(McLean, VA) July 2024 – GeoScienceWorld, the essential resource for researchers and geoscientists in the earth sciences, announces updates to its popular map-based search tool, OpenGeoSci. To search, users can click directly into the map to browse by location, search the database and view results on the map, or limit their search results to specified map boundaries. However the user searchers, the results now link directly to the article or chapter in the database, making for a faster and more seamless search experience.

“We’re always eager to provide meaningful upgrades to the platform that improves the research experience,” notes Alistair Reece, Product Manager, Platform and Implementations. “We know geoscientists love maps, and an examination of user data showed that making this change would make this search tool significantly more user friendly.”

The OpenGeoSci tool and article abstracts are free and open to all to explore. In addition to Open Access content, GSW includes paywalled content that requires a subscription.

Hosted on the Silverchair platform, GSW serves over 250,000 users annually with its one-stop resource for academics and professionals. 2024 marks GSW’s 20th anniversary of supporting the global geoscience community, curating 50 journals, 2,400 eBooks, and 4.6 million GeoRef records from leading societies and publishers.
